WORKSHOPS

Munchkins: prep-yr 2
For ages 5 - 7, the MUNCHKINS explore creative movement, characterisation from known stories, story telling and basic improvisation. Vocally, students begin to develop lung capacity, projection techniques and articulation through sound and vocal play.

Winkies: yr 3 & 4
For ages 7 - 9, the WINKIES explore characterisation through known and improvised stories; develop collaboration techniques; and start exploring their vocal range while further developing projection and articulation techniques.

Juniors: yr 5 & 6
For ages 9 - 12, the JUNIORS work on developing improvisation techniques, working with text, and writing for performance. Students begin to create in the physical theatre space through work inspired by Viewpoints, and vocally, student begin identifying the vocal production process and applying specific vocal techniques to their practice.

Middies: yr 7 - 9
For ags 12 - 15, the MIDDIES, further develop improvisation and devising techniques; and explore a range of texts including contemporary plays, poetry and Shakespeare. Physical theatre techniques include Viewpoints, Laban, basic acrobatics and clowning. Vocally, students continue work towards projection and articulation, while begining to find nuance in vocal intonations, resonance and variation.

Seniors: yr 10 - 12
For ages 15 -18, the SENIORS, develop improvisations, devising and facilitating techniques; and explore a range of texts including ancient and modern classics, Shakespeare, performance poetry, contemporary drama and new works. Students devise in the physical theatre space using a rage of techniques. Vocally, students develop their own practice while being given regular feedback.
SNAP SHOT
ETHOS: The classes focus specifically on acting training for young people. AwA modifies professional actor training exercises for young people and uses age appropriate texts. Each class incorporates voice work, physical theatre work and performance (improvisation, mime and/or text).
STRUCTURE: AwA runs a six week programme every school term. Occasionally the programme will be split into two sections if Arminelle is involved in an event for TheatreiNQ.
